Corinthian II in Antarctica
No travelers visit Antarctica during the winter when polar ice blocks ship traffic and temperatures plunge into the negative degrees, even along the relatively warmer coasts. Most vessels offer tours from November to March. November : The month of November (late Austral spring and early Austral summer) undoubtedly offers the most adventurous time to visit the Peninsula. This is the time to see Antarctica at its most undisturbed form. As the season goes on, the landing areas become impacted and muddy. Some operators tend to discourage November voyages as temperatures tend to be colder and polar ice is still breaking up so access to some areas may be limited. However, the cold temperatures also offer the most impressive icescapes, pristine snow and breathtaking scenery. Wildlife is not as plentiful as later in the season, but it is a good time to see the penguins mating. There are fascinating courtship displays in the penguin rookeries and travelers can see the penguins at work building their nests. December to Early February : December and January have the most sunlight (up to 20 hours a day), penguins begin hatching, and vessels are typically fully booked many months in advance. Wildlife, especially penguin chicks, is most plentiful during this time typically. Mid-February and March : Late summer, February and early March is the best time to spot whales, though you are taking the risk that other wildlife may already be gone out to sea. Cruises tend to be less crowded so often there is less waiting time for Zodiacs and station tours. This time of year you are also likely to have better access to areas further south as polar ice melts.

Kaiken in Argentina - Ski !
Warm comfortable lodge along prisitine Lago Fagnano in Tierra del Fuego. Hostería Kaikén is in the state of Tierra del Fuego, on the shores of Fagnano lake, in the midst of beautiful ¨ñires¨ forests and surrounded by the Andes mountains. It was built in the sixties, as a point of refuge and refueling half way between Río Grande and Ushuaia, on National Route N° 3, and is very attractive for tourists due to its wonderful sights, trekking trails and salmon fishing. Closed for several years, Kaikén was totally renewed and now offers its comfortable and updated services, while it maintains its character of being the most beautiful and traditional place in the heart of Tierra del Fuego. This ¨heart of the island¨ was where the Shelk’nam natives found refuge during the winter, living in the forests and seeking food and clothing from herds of ¨guanacos¨ which still today inhabit in the area.

Isla La Victoria in Argentina - Ski !
On a large island in Lago Nahuel Huapi - accessible only by boat. Serene ,pure and natural. Condé Nast Johansens Award Winner 2007 Most Excellent Lodge - SOUTH AMERICA Nahuel Huapi National Park is the oldest and most important national park in Argentina. Nahuel Huapi Lake, covering 557 square kilometers (215 sq. miles) , is the most outstanding feature of the park. In the Mapuche or Araucano language, Nahuel means tiger, and Huapi means island. This was the aboriginal name for Victoria Island, which was later applied to the whole lake. Victoria Island is a peak covered by woods, some 20 kilometers in length, in the middle of the lake. It has been part of the national park since 1935. It is a region of many variations in landscape and climate. Only 50 kilometers or 31 miles separate Puerto Blest at the foot of the Andes from the source of Limay river, but annual rainfall diminishes from over three meters or almost 10 feet in the first region to just 50 centimeters or 1,6 ft in the second. Vegetation shows a similar variation from the Valdivian rainforest to the Patagonian steppe. Mount Tronador, the colossus of the region at a height of 3,478 meters (11.411 ft) , is visible from the lodge's terrace. Mount Tronador holds the northernmost glaciers of the southern hemisphere. Mountain chains with peaks over 1,000 meters or 3,000 ft higher than the lake (which is approximately 772 meters, 2,532 ft above sea level) are located to the east and west of Victoria Island.

Correntoso in Argentina - Ski !
On Lago Correntoso - an old world lodge with ample adventure. We depart from the Hotel (Correntoso’s marina) navigating in our boat through Lake Nahuel Huapi. We navigate through some of the lake’s main inlets such as “Ultima Esperanza”, “Rincon”, and “Machete”. We disembark on the beach where we begin our trekking through the National Park’s protected area. The approximate duration time is 2 hs and we will interpret different species of flora and fauna found in the native forest with an expert guide. For lunch we will enjoy a plentiful picnic on the beach, and after relaxing we will get back to the Hotel. In one of the options of this program we visit a family of first settlers -that have lived in the National Park since 1917- where besides a two hour trekking to the “Colorado” creek falls we will enjoy a country style “asado” (argentine barbeque). Winter: We will travel through trails covered in snow within the National Park. We can also combine trekking with navigation through the Lake to reach even more spectacular and uncharted territories. We slide along with backcountry skis through the Argentine and Chilean border traveling through the foothills. We ski through locations far from the ski resorts with the help of expert guides and technical equipment.
